What "third-party tested" means
Third-party testing means an independent laboratory — one with no commercial stake in the result — analyses a finished batch and issues a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) reporting exactly what it found, rather than the manufacturer testing its own product and simply asserting the result. Our Omega-3 DHA is tested by a laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, the international standard for the competence of testing laboratories.
What every batch is tested for
Because this is an algae-sourced oil, testing covers potency, freshness and the contaminants that matter for omega-3 oils:
- DHA potency. The lab measures the actual DHA content per softgel and confirms it matches the amount stated on the label, so each serving delivers the dose you paid for.
- Oxidation & freshness. Peroxide value, anisidine value and the combined TOTOX score confirm the oil is fresh and not rancid — critical for a delicate long-chain omega-3. Our oil is cold-pressed and handled under nitrogen to keep oxidation low.
- Heavy metals. Testing for mercury, lead, arsenic and cadmium. Sourcing DHA directly from farmed algae rather than fish avoids the ocean food chain where these accumulate — testing confirms it.
- Marine & environmental contaminants. Screening for PCBs and dioxins, the persistent pollutants associated with fish-derived oils.
- Microbial contamination. Screening for total microbial count, yeast and mould, and pathogens such as E. coli and Salmonella.
How to read the certificate
A CoA lists each parameter tested, the method used, the specification (the pass limit), the actual result measured, and a pass/fail conclusion. For DHA potency you are looking for a result at or above the labelled amount. For contaminants and oxidation markers you are looking for a result at or below the limit — often reported as "less than" the detection threshold, meaning none was found. The batch or lot number on the certificate should match the number printed on the base of your bottle.
Why algae oil changes what we test for
Fish do not make DHA — they accumulate it by eating algae, along with the mercury, PCBs and dioxins present in the ocean. By sourcing DHA directly from algae grown in closed, controlled bio-pods, we cut out that contamination step entirely. Third-party testing is how we prove it: the certificate shows the contaminant results at or below the detection limit rather than asking you to take our word for it. Freshness testing matters just as much, because DHA is a delicate molecule that oxidises quickly once heated or exposed to air.
Manufacturing standards
The product is 100% vegan — algae-derived oil in a plant-based softgel — cold-pressed, handled under a nitrogen atmosphere, and encapsulated in an inert-gas environment to protect the DHA. It is manufactured in a GMP-certified facility.
